Yoga is a group of ancient spiritual practices originating in India. It aims to develop oneself in varying dimensions such as body, mind, emotion and individuality etc. The goal of yoga is to direct one to Moksha , the liberation from craving, anger and other afflictive states.
What is yoga pose?
Yoga asana or yoga pose refers to the discipline of the body, rules and postures to improve health, remove diseases and preserve vital energy. Asana is the third step of 8 limbs (ashtanga yoga) which are the way to approach to meditation.
Why do yoga poses?
Correct postures are a physical aid to meditation which is the ultimate goal of yoga. Yoga pose practice can control the limbs and nervous system, preventing them from creating disturbances. Practicing yoga asanas help create tolerance of body and mind in 3 issues:
- starving
- pain
- death
Can I practice yoga poses at home?
Yoga asanas can be practiced almost everywhere. A beginner may need a yoga trainer to guide how to perform postures and breathe correctly. However, those who are too busy may find yoga books or yoga videos are the best sources to follow. This website also provides you some advices on selecting yoga accessories for practicing at home.
Tips for doing yoga poses:
- One should take a shower and do excretion before doing yoga poses.
- To avoid the distraction, the suitable place for yoga must be quiet, well ventilated, and free from dust, insects, unpleasant smell, draught, and moisture. The floor must be smooth and soft.
- You should have your bowel empty at least 2-4 hours before the practice.
- You must breathe through your nose only. Do not hold your breath during the practice.
- You should begin with the easy postures and gradually, increase the difficult level of postures.
- One may take a rest if a particular exercise proves to be tiring.
- Keep your eyes open when proceeding poses.
- Yoga clothes should be loose and scanty to allow your skin expose to the air. Take off your shoes, socks and all ornaments such as watches, rings.
- Always warm up your body before the practice. One should do yoga poses frequently at least 3 times a week
- Always finish the exercise with Corpse Pose (Savasana).
