For example, if two people are running three miles and one is in the sun and one isn’t, which one will get a better workout?

Both are the same. In the heat you use more energy to cool down and in the cold weather you use more energy to warm up. If you will run at a good pace, then your body will produce more heat and you will use less energy, than in the sun, but if you are jogging, then there is no difference, apart mental.

well the one in the sun will probably burn more calories because its hotter…

Sun is probably better for you though.

well to answer this question accurately you would need to define ‘a better workout.’ running in the sun burns more calories and wares on your body faster than you would in the cold.

Its similar, the difference is the lung air-capacity, which would help you get in shape, plus running in the sun would make your body suffer more due to the sweat/sun irradiation/lose of minerals/etc. Running when its cloudy avoids the weathers breakdowns and help you improve your performance.

neither it’s best to run in a moderate temperature at sea level

the one in the sun will burn more calories, but probably won’t be able to go as fast because it’s more hot outside. When it’s winter, you get more speed, because it’s cooler out. But if both people are running the same pace, it won’t make a difference.

I would think that running in the sun would be a "better" workout because you would probably sweat a LOT more and burn way more calories. However, it can physically be hard on your body from all that sun and heat.

But running in the cold can be hard on you and your body too because if its too cold your muscles could cramp and what not. Plus if its SUPER cold and your not wearing the proper clothing your extremities (toes, fingers) could be cold!

For me personally the ideal running weather is overcast or some sun with a light breeze and around 60 to 79 degrees.
