Is running 20 miles per week a good amount for basic cardio?

This is my goal: Running 5 miles a day, four times a week. I can’t run everyday because of my schedule, four is the most I could give. Does anyone have any tips on other types of exercises to do along with the cardio? Specific moves would be appreciated. My goal to to get toned and remain active. I don’t want to run any races or anything.
* This is running outside, not on a treadmill or anything.

You’re working out to maintain health and fitness, thats a great regime to accomplish.

You could always thru in some pushups bc it helps maintain a strong core which helps for running. As well as gentle stretches like pilates.

    Good luck!

Every other day is fine, and 5 miles should likely take you over the 45 minute recommended level.

You might look into some upper body workouts (weights, etc.) too. You also want to stretch after your runs if you can.

4×5 miles is huge, unless you are training for a marathon.  But running that amount might not give you any toning benefits (plenty of 4-hour marathoners are still chubby!)  Try 4×3 miles, but at the end of your runs add 4×50 yards (or 6-10 seconds) of sprinting as fast as you can with 30-60 seconds rest in-between.
