I experience the same thing… I run alot as well. And I also get cramps while running. Most of the time we get these cramps when we are dehydrated or haven’t had enough food to supply us with the energy to run.
You run 3 miles a day…. and are obvisiouly an experienced runner, but as one runner to another it couldn’t hurt to remind you of some simple tips: You are running eveyday, keeping your body active. Make sure you eat healthy balanced meals, you need protien as well as fats to grant you energy. Drink PLENTY of water every day, and if your a serious runner, I don’t mean a few glasses. Make sure you have a proper salt intake. Includes sources such as Gatorade for eloctrolites. Stretch before your run, arms and legs, waist everything, stretch the night before, and DEFINATILY after you run. But what is most important is make sure to drink plenty of water and eat when you are hungry, I would suggest smaller meals about 5 – 6 times a day.
If you get these cramps again… don’t stop as you have done in the past. Yes they do hurt, but you are only hurting yourself more by stopping. You can slow down if needed, but don’t stop. Keep going, sometimes it gets better by keeping your body in movement.
Remember… eat right (protiens, carbohydrates, fats), sleep, drink water and stretch. If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me.
