I used to be really active and do cross country and judo. But fot 2 years Ive just be a lazy bum . Now I really want to get fit. I want to do the nike 10k run in london ,but know I won’t get fit to do it (its in 2 months)as I’m pretty much starting from scratch. I would like to do it next year.
But I was wondering whats the best place to start when running and how long would I expect it to take to get fit?

Start running by walking 2 minutes and running one and run for 20 minutes. Then the next day walk 1 minute and run 2 and run for about 25 minutes or so.
Do that for about a week and switch off days on running longer or walking longer.
Then the next week you should walk 1 minute and run 3 all 7 days and run for about 25 minutes. Each week take it up and eventually get rid of the walking all together.
Honestly I hated running more than anything else in the world but this seriously worked for me.
start by running a short distance (1mile?) 5 times (or more) a week. and then the other day you will be running less distance but you will be doing sprint walks (sprint 100m/walk 100m)
And just alternate these plans every day.
