Running???

My first cross country season just ended and I’m wondering if I should take an easy week or two (21- 35 m/w) or jump right back into hard runs to train for next year and keep in shape. I have a paranoia that if I go a week or two running 3 miles per day or less then i feel like I am going to get fat or run slower (Yes, I used to have an eating disorder.) I’m 5’3", 115-20lbs, 10% body fat, 24" waist… Do you think I have to worry bout gaining weight?? I ran a 5k in 22-23 minutes average and I can run a 7min mile…Do you think I have to worry about slowing down??? I also do Karate twice a week and 7-10 mile runs on sundays. Sorry for sounding paranoid… thanks

I always think it is a good idea to take some time off after a season. Two weeks of active rest, usually helps you physically and mentally.

Run can run easy, relax and not think about training or racing for a while.

All runners understand how you feel not to run, so you don’t have be inactive, just don’t start training for next year yet.

You are not going to lose a lot of conditioning by not training for a little while.

unless you train hardcore all year around you will get a little slower but you will get it back next season. try cross training. (biking, swimming, or weight lifting)

Always, always, ALWAYS take a break after a season, at a minimum one week. I have spent the last four years as a high school athlete for XC and indoor and outdoor tracks, and my brother is in his junior year of doing the same. I can tell you that the easiest way to injure yourself or burn out is to not stop.
I would take about 2 weeks off, and if you run, even just the 3 miles a day, I would only do everyother day at most. Yes, you will probably slow down a little bit, but you will be able to make that ground very quickly. You won’t have to worry about weight gain unless you drastically change your eating habits. I hope this helps!
