You’ll need to exercise a little longer on the bike, but its still a good cardio workout. It can also depend on how fast your going or if your ridin hills and stuff. As long as you feel your heart beatin faster then thats good cardio
In fact, sometimes running is better. You train your leg muscles as you pound the pavement. But then again, if you pedal at the speed of light, then you should be able to get similiar training.
You can get a better cardiovascular workout on a bike. You can go for hours on a bike at a decent heart rate. Very few people can run for that long or do it every day. Start out with an easy 10 min warm up. After the warm up you want to pedal at a high cadence 70-90 rpms with a lite pressure on the pedals. That will use your slow twitch muscles that use fat as a fuel and can go for a very long time. Pedaling slow and mashing on the pedals is more like sprinting and will kill your legs quickly. If you really want to get the heart pumping climb some hills or do interval training.
