This is my first year in marching band, and i’m looking for a pair of sneakers to buy to use during rehearsals and parades. Would cross trainers be appropriate for this? If not, what do you recommend? Thanks in advance!

Are you required to wear a certain color shoe?
I’d recommend a walking show, with a good spongy heel and sole – the kind you’d probably see worn by people in retail who have to stand all day.
Since you’ll be walking miles, I’m not sure a regular running or tennis shoe will give you enough support, or last long. A Google search for "marching shoes" brings up alot of options. The typical marching shoe is not that pretty, but most of the time band leaders want uniformity over fashion.
You will probably be required to get a certain pair of shoes for performances. But just day to day wearing. Cross trainers should be OK. Only try not to get something with to much tread. It will make it harder to turn on your foot. I just wore running shoes most of the time in Drum Corp and marching band
