Can I do weight cross training followed by long distance running on the same day?

I have a cross training program that involves some weight. But mostly push-ups, pull-ups, and curls (bicep, tricep) and shoulder presses.

Can I perform these cross-training weight workout (about an hour long) then do a distance run (starting at 1 mile, then increasing by .5 miles a week until I’m doing 4-5 miles).

If you care, the cross training weight workouts are the P90X workouts (I love them).

My main reason to do this is to prepare for Cross Country while KEEPING (NOT BUILDING) my muscles.

Thanks.

I would think that it is not overkill. It would be similar to doing P90X doubles. In the P90X exercise guide, double would be adding the cardio video 3-4 times per week. They show the cardio going in the am and then the training in the pm.

Just make sure to listen to our body. The last thing you want to do is have an injury. If you are already in good shape then you will be able to tell when enough is enough.

    Hope this helps.

I’d say you should do the weight training after the run, get your blood flowing before you go doing weights.
