Cross-Training Ideas?

I have really bad shin splints and the doctor said that I shouldn’t run for 3 weeks. However, cross country running training starts in a week. I have to swim, bike, or use the elliptical. Do you have any good workouts or workout plans that I could use to stay in shape?
Thank you!

I am not a good runner but i do run. I was doing it so much and i got a little tired of it. So instead of running 6 days i now do it one or two days a week. My new "addiction" is the stationary bike. I get a really good workout and sweat more than when i run. I set the resistance to 7 and do each mile in less than 3 minutes. I go really fast, when i reach a mile i slow it down a bit to catch my breath then go again. (You can,im sure do it faster and with more resistance.) As with running i try to beat my time each time. I also use an Arc Trainer, its like an elliptical but i like it much better. you can set resistance. Three weeks ago i did a 5k, since then i ran 3 times and my speed is still the same. actually today i beat my time from last weeks run. My friend who is a good runner, does marathons. says the bike is good because your legs go faster than running so you get a good workout from it, but you get to sit.lol.
You could just try running in water. The resistance is a b*tch but it really helps strengthen your legs.
