Yes, Cross Training is a combination of cardio and weight training.
I have trained this way for years and found it to be the best way to balance weight loss, combat workout boredom and get the quickest results. Depending upon your level, you should shoot for 4 days per week. Weight training should be the first thing you do, with the cardio at the end.
Isolate a body part for that day:
Mon – biceps and tricepts
Wed – Chest and shoulders
Friday – legs and butt
Sat – Maybe just heavy cardio
Exercise each muscle group only once per week – remember though, you need to work it hard. Typcically I will do 30-45 of weights and 45 mins of cardio.
You can do abs every workout without a problem. Remember to stretch before, during and after the workouts – stretch a lot!
