Or does cycling works on almost same muscle group?
Which cross training is most effective for runners to prevent injuries?

You can use the cycling as a recovery day from running. It does not work the muscles in the same way as running. It does work the cardiovascular system. It does not have impact on the ground so it is easier on your joints and feet. You can run in deep water which has no impact and works you very hard. To prevent injuries you need to make sure you hydrate well, stretch, and cool down. Taking off one day per week is a very good idea. If you feel like you have a problem coming on then you need to adjust or take off.

i think cycling builds the thighs and hips… running needs your calves, so you should build your calves more.
