Need help on training for cross country?

So I’m thinking about doing cross country or soccer next year for a sport in the begining of the year to have something to do and I’m leaning towards cross country. But the only problem is i’ve never really run before, only a few miles in gym class in middle school every now in then. Next year I’m going to be a sophomore and I wanted to know what exercises and what schedules I should start doing over the summer to increase my endurance?

Well since you really haven’t run a lot before I think you should start out slow everyday during the same go for a run around your neighborhood or go on the treadmill. That will really help. If your going around your neighborhood buy a Pedometer. Gradually you’ll be running three miles by the time school starts. But just to make it easy Train as if you need to run a half mile more. Also try to limit or even get rid or carbonated drinks in your diet. Blood cant keep oxygen when the carbonation blocks it. Even try eating bananas for extra potassium I Eat one every morning. Heres an awesome website that I started using last summer. The link is below!

Try for 100 miles over the summer. I did 180 and I was in great shape.

go for a jog everyday, then after the jog, stretch different parts of your body, and don’t sit down straight afterwards, otherwise the next day you will have sore arms and legs.

You should go to the gym about 3 times a week and exercise there for a while. Also every morning you can go on a jog which will help you for cross country a lot

Talk to the Cross Country coach. My team practices over the summer. We normally run around 4 miles 4 days a week, and 1 speed workout per week. (400′s or 800′s at a certain, fast pace)
At my school people can do cross country and soccer, so if you can’t decide, you can probably do both :)

    Good Luck!
