What are the requirements for being a fitness instructor?

I would like to be a fitness teacher. One that teaches classes at a fitness center, & not a personal trainer. But I wasnt sure if certifications were mandatiory.

In most cases your local community college will be able to answer that question. The reason for this is that every state has it’s own guidelines to be certified.
At every gym I’ve ever been to the trainers were clueless morons. Doubt very much is required
unfortunately it is not regulated by govenment. there are certification programs through places like the ymca and Can fit pro (check on-line for one in your area). most respectable gyms will only allow certified instructors but not all. for liability reasons… do your homework and get a good grade to have a long career with it. good teachers r hard to find.
