I am doing a mini triathlon and have a bike question?

I only own a mountain bike, would it be better if I just tighten my shocks and put some street tires on it, or borrow a old 70s street bike for the race. What would you think will work better for that purpose? thanks

I don’t know what you mean by mini triathlon. I assume it would be shorter than a sprint triathlon where the bike portion is 20km. I figure mini might be closer to 10k.

If the old road bike fits and is in good mechanical condition, I’d probably opt for that if the limited gearing wouldn’t be too annoying. If you’re comfortable on your mtb and find it efficient enough, lockout the fork and ride it.

With a short event, I don’t think you will be on the bike long enough to gain or lose significant time.
