I used a mountain bike for my first triathlon and am planning to do more races. So I thought I’d invest in a bike. Having looked around, I found a Specialized Transition Elite in my price range. Also looked at a road bike that could be fitted with aero bars. Any suggestions?

You also have to look at whether or not you’ll be doing a lot of riding, especially in groups (in addition to the triathlons). On tri bikes your shifters and brake levers are in two different places. You will have to move your hands to grab the brake levers if something happens, not great for riding in large groups or really technical stuff where you have to shift and brake at almost the same time. They also aren’t all that great if you are in a position where you have to shift alot. If you plan to do alot of riding, the road bike is a little more versatile. Your shifters are also your brake levers so you can do both without moving your hands. It makes technical stuff and pack riding more easier to deal with. To get the more aerodynamic position, you’ll need aerobars. This still won’t be as aerodynamic as a tri bike, but it will help.
Ebay
yea make sure it works
yea get a bmx or a mountain bike
Using a mountain bike for time trials or triathalons is very difficult and not recommended…
Yes, Specialized makes great bikes. As far as aero bars, basically any road bike can be outfitted with them.
When you have more money and become serious about racing, you can always upgrade. Good luck and ride safe!
