Thousands of women from around the world took part in a three-day celebration of womens health and fitness at the inaugural Disneys Princess Half Marathon Weekend presented by Lady Foot Locker. The weekend kicked off with the Fit For a Princess Expo at Disney’s Wide World of Sports where fitness experts lead seminars on everything from training to racing to nutrition to the latest in cutting edge equipment. The weekend’s signature event, Disneys Princess Half Marathon, took runners on a 13.1 mile royal journey through Magic Kingdom and Epcot. In all more than 11000 runners from every US state and 17 other countries competed in various races throughout weekend, which included the Royal Family 5K and the Princess Kids Races, making this event one of the largest endurance race weekends geared towards women.

Air Force Cadet Third Class Malcolm Strong ran the Walt Disney Marathon for more than just himself, it was a “Run for the Fallen.” The Central Florida native wants to raise awareness for all the men and women killed in the United States global war on terrorism. Strong ran the 26.2 miles in full military fatigues, carried a 30 pound backpack, and handed out American flags along the route. More importantly to the Air Force Cadet, he carried letters from family members whose loved ones were killed in the service of our country. He will wear the 2010 Disney World Marathon medal he earned with pride. The Endurance Series at Walt Disney World Resort gives recreational athletes of all ages and abilities the chance to walk, jog, run, bike and swim their way around the world. From marathons to road races to triathlons, athletes from across the country and around the world compete to stay in shape, achieve personal best times and raise donations for charitable causes. What Is The Disney Marathon Weekend?

The Disney Marathon Weekend is one of the fastest growing events at Disney. Featuring a wide range of activities and events for runners and their families, as well as a chance to spend time exploring the parks of Walt Disney World. The Disney Marathon Weekend is a great reason to take a trip to Orlando. This event offers something for everyone in the family, from runners to walkers, and young to old. With more people visiting the park each year for the races, runners can have a great time and enjoy an exciting marathon.
The main event of weekend is the full marathon. This race is run on Sunday and takes places all throughout the Disney properties. The race will begin at Epcot and pass through each of the four parks before returning to Epcot, where the finish line is located. Those who complete this also have other opportunities to medal, as well.
The second major race of the weekend is the half marathon. The Saturday race allows those who aren't up for the challenge of the full race or who just want to run a warm up, a 13.1 mile version of the full marathon. This event also gives each participant who completes the run a medal.
The biggest challenge of marathon weekend is the Goofy Race-And-A-Half Challenge. Entrants who participate in both races will receive a special medal for this outstanding achievement. Completing both of these events is a true challenge and very rewarding for those who go on to finish.
Besides the main events of the weekend, the rest of the family can enjoy a Family Fun Run, as well as the Disney Health and Fitness Expo.
