I have been doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for around 2 years or just under. I want to start cross training next year. I have been considering the possibility of cross training and i have been looking into it quite thoroughly, I read a couple of articles saying how you should have a strong base in your first art and once you do you will be able to train better with your second art as you can apply techniques, movements etc which will help you and hopefully make it easier for you to learn and progress.
On one hand i feel an art that would a company my BJJ would be the best option, such as Judo.
But on the other hand i am wondering if doing something completely new, such as a striking art, would make for a more well rounded martial artist.
However i know, having watched a number of karate classes, that it would be hard to adapt from BJJ to Karate, Tae Kwon Do etc because of how its centered around forms or Kata where as BJJ is more.. Free? I don’t know i guess it depends on the school! Then again my BJJ instructor used to be a Karate instructor!
I hope you guys can put forth some good input that is based on experience and knowledge. Thanks a lot.
I have one last thing to say, just want to make this clear. I do not want to be a fighter. I want to be a martial artist.

So far I have been training Judo for 1 year. The club I go to only has class 3 times a week and I can only make it twice a week. There is no way in hell i’m leaving my Dojo because I love it there I just want to train a lot more, and I love BJJ. I would like an answer from experienced Grappler if it is too soon to start cross training or the sooner the better. Thank You!

I used to be really active and do cross country and judo. But fot 2 years Ive just be a lazy bum . Now I really want to get fit. I want to do the nike 10k run in london ,but know I won’t get fit to do it (its in 2 months)as I’m pretty much starting from scratch. I would like to do it next year.
But I was wondering whats the best place to start when running and how long would I expect it to take to get fit?
