Is there a good substitute to running 10 miles?

I know running can be a great way to lose weight and get ripped, but is there a good substitute to running 10 miles? For instance, what if I ran five miles, swam a little bit (I’m not a good swimmer, so not very much,) rode my bike for a while, and played basketball? I would do these all within a short period of time. What would be good distances for each sport to get similar results to running 10 miles?

When running, is there a certain breath pattern that you take in order to keep you running for a longer period of time?
