Cross Training for a Marathon?

I am planning on starting a marathon training program soon and it has specific days of cross training. It suggests swimming, biking or running, but I’m curious… Can golf be my cross training activity? I always walk when I play, so I figured just hitting some balls in between wouldn’t spoil the walk too much. What do you think? If that’s a no go, would you say playing golf on a rest day is a bad idea? Or is that too much? I would really like to work in one round a week…

Can burst training and cross country running work together to lose weight/gain muscle?

I had heard that after you do burst training that the day after is a rest day and if you exercise much it can actually go against your weight loss/muscle gain. I’m going to be starting cross-country practice soon and will be running 5 days a week and was wondering if adding a burst training routine in the mornings would be beneficial. Along with cross-country practice and burst training I will be weightlifting also, if that makes any difference. Thanks!

Have a plan long run this week. Though from being lazy missed a run yesterday. Going to make up the run today. Today was going to be a cross training day. The next day is usually a rest day because the following day is my long run. Could make up cross training early morning tomorrow, and will have most of the evening to rest. Or could go Thursday morning the day after. What do you normally do the day before your long runs?
