Cross training ideas for shin splints?

I’ve been running cross country since the beginning of July and last week I got shin splints but have been running up until yesterday because that’s when they became to hard to run with. I’ve read that you have to rest, ice, massage, and cross train. Can you please give some ideas for cross training? I have to go back to practice in 5 days and need to make sure I’m not a complete mess when it starts up again. Thanks!
Also, about how long do you think it will take for them to heal? I’ve only had them for a week and they are not too bad where I can’t run at all. Again thank you.

Cross-Training Ideas?

I have really bad shin splints and the doctor said that I shouldn’t run for 3 weeks. However, cross country running training starts in a week. I have to swim, bike, or use the elliptical. Do you have any good workouts or workout plans that I could use to stay in shape?
Thank you!

I usually run outside, on the hard concrete, and can’t help but get shin splints after I am done running. I am a poor college student and cant’ afford a gym membership to run on treadmills.
Any good ideas on how to lessen the impact on my bones while running?
Thanks!

What happens when you go to a running specialty store?

I’m going to a running specialty store to buy a new pair of running shoes, which I’ve never done before. I don’t like feet and I don’t want the employees to be looking at the structure of my feet and how I run and stuff, but I need a good pair of shoes that work for me because I’m starting to get shin splints. What should I do?
