Planning to set a new marathon PR and would like advice.?

So my next marathon is May 1, 2011 at the Oklahoma City Marathon. I’m really hoping to use every bit of time between now and then to get my time down to around 3:30. I have plenty of free time to train outside of work and my 2 online classes. My last marathon was a trail marathon on a mountain bike trail in the rain, wind, mud, and constant uphill/downhill terrain changes so I’m sure I can best my 4:30 time no problem. What I’m looking to do is increase my Ironman chances in the future. At the same time I’ll be keeping up my cycling and swimming but the focus is gonna be on running. I’m willing to go through just about anything (within reason that is) to keep my Ironman aspirations alive. I’d prefer to keep spending money limited to shoes and gear. Currently I run about 30-40 miles per week incorporating drills such as Fartlek and Yasso 800′s. I also do a lot of CrossFit with emphasis on lower body work. Thanks to anyone who offers their assistance.
Apollenaire: For swimming and cycling it’s mainly a maintenance think right now. I ride and swim about 2 or 3 days a week but no more than 40-50 miles on the bike for a long ride and about a mile to 1.5 for the longest swim along with some tempo swims and some work on my bike trainer. Basically I never go longer than 2-2.5 hours in either sport. Running is the focus right now.

I have always ran a lot and recently moved about half a mile from the beach. I have been running in Brooks the past few years have ran in rain and they have been confortable even when pretty wet. I am wondering if there are any specific shoes that would be better for beach running?

I’m planning on wearing a one piece swimsuit, and then my padded bike shorts over that, and I’m plannin on doing all three events with that on and no changing… Then for shoes I’m just planning on wearing my racing flats for the bike and run. I don’t have a clip bike for the biking part… I’m a pretty amateur for Triathlons. Does this seem okay to do it in?

How to tell if certain sneakers are good for running?

I shop at discount stores so they have wider selections of shoes than department stores, but when buying sneakers how do I know if they would be good for running? And how to buy good running sneakers (after I find out they’re for running)? Don’t say ask the sales person because it’s a discount store and they’re high schoolers so don’t know more than me. Thanks.

I’ll be entering my first triathlon in a few months and I have no idea what to expect in the transition areas. Do you set them up before hand? What do you need in the transition areas? Do you change shoes from swim to bike to run? Do you change shorts from the swim to the bike? I have absolutely no idea what to expect and I would like to be prepared, if anyone can give me details and what to expect I’d appreciate it.

Have any tips for someone who wants to start running?

To put it bluntly, I am a very sedentary creature. I’m skinny and I eat healthy, but I’m just not in shape. I feel kind of like I should be, so I’ve been looking to start running for some exercise. I’ve found someone I can run with, even.
Is there anything I can do or should be doing to make the process of starting easier?
What should I do before or after I go for a run?
What kind of workout clothing or shoes would you strongly recommend or strongly recommend avoiding?
