Sheila Taormina

Sheila Taormina is an Olympic athlete who has competed at 4 Olympics (1996-2008). She is the only woman to compete in 3 different Olympic sports (swimming, triathlon and modern pentathlon). At the 1996 Olympics, she earned a gold medal as a member of the USA’s winning women’s 4×200 meter freestyle relay team and is a triathlon world champion.

There will be two components to the seminar: classroom sessions and a “laboratory” in the form of a structured training program. The classroom component will introduce the students to the chemistry of their own biological system. With swimming, running and cycling as sample sports, students are encouraged to apply their knowledge to complete a triathlon shortly after the term.
