What should I do as cross-training for running? (more details below)?

I’m a sophomore in high school. I ran winter and spring track freshman year. I didn’t do cross country (long story), but I’ve been training since the beginning of August.
Winter track started Monday.
My left leg is okay, but I have a shin splint and strained hamstring in my right leg. I know what to do for my shin splint and hamstring, but the athletic trainer said I should cross-train over the weekend.
I know swimming and biking are really common cross-training activities for running. I can’t ride a bike. I might be able to get to an indoor pool, but if I can’t get to a pool, what should I do tomorrow as cross-training?
Is it better to take a day off from running or do some cross training that day? Do i need a full day of rest?

I do cross country and every week i take sundays off. Should i be doing some cross training on this day? Or would a full day of rest be best so i can recover properly? Also, if i am supposed to cross train what are some good things to do that won’t tire me out the next day?
Anyone in the NYC area interested in cross-training this weekend?

Through a website called bullshido different martial artists get together in local areas to arrange different sparring sessions under whatever rules the people agree on. It isn’t very formal. if you want to go light contact you can find someone there who will go light contact, if you want to do standing only or full mma you can find someone there who will do that too.
No egos, just a bunch of people who want to cross train with other styles and martial artists.
If you show up you are considered a winner because you are a normal person willing to test your technique against different people and you are not all talk.
It is this sunday (the 19th) at the fighthouse here is the info from the bullshido topic:
sunday nov 19, 12noon-3pm. at fight house (www.fighthouse.com) mat fee seems to usually be /per person but if there are enough of us we should try to haggle down to 122 West 27th Street 2nd floor, New York, N. Y. 10001 (bet. 6 & 7 Ave.) TEL. (212)807-9202
here is the bullshido link for the topic:

Or you can message me with any questions.
It went well. I guess there isn’t anybody here on yahoo answers from nyc though.

Does cross training in the Air Force slow your promotion time to E-5?

I am a first term airman (E-3) and want to cross train at the end of my enlistment into weather. This tech school is 8 or 9 months and is followed by 18-24 months of on-the-job training. I am worried that I will be stuck at E-4 without being able to test for E-5 due to the lengthy tech school for weather. Can someone give me information about how testing for promotion works when you cross train (retrain) into a new job?

Hey there, so I’ve decided to start running to lose weight, I’m starting my program, It’s a walk/jog program that will get me up to jogging two miles at the end of 8 weeks. ANyways, on some of the ‘rest days’ it says you can either rest or cross train. I was wondering, what are some good indoor cross-training things I can do?

if you are always at the back of the pack in a triathlon, what keeps you going?

i love fitness activities, although i can’t say i am as fit as i would like to be. i swim fairly well, bike averagely and do poorly at running. for the heck of it, i’ve done a triathlon and was overjoyed at being able to complete the course, although i was placed second from last! i know life can be unfair when you are surrounded by genetically superior cardiovascular supermen/women. so if you are in my position, what would you do to motivate yourself to continue training and join other triathlons… knowing that your times will never rise to great heights even though you train to kingdom come?
