I am 43, 180lbs and have been working out 3-5 times a week for 5 months. I alternate between cardio and crossfit workouts. During my cardio workouts I usually will run on the treadmill for 3 miles if I run at 6.0 mph our less my heart rate stays about 150 per minute or less, if I push the speed up or do sprints etc… my heart rate goes up to at or sometimes above my maximum of 177 but I dont feel like I am really winded or pushing it too hard. Should I be going above my max or just pay attention to how I feel? My goal is to lose fat and increase overall fitness.

Is running 20 miles per week a good amount for basic cardio?

This is my goal: Running 5 miles a day, four times a week. I can’t run everyday because of my schedule, four is the most I could give. Does anyone have any tips on other types of exercises to do along with the cardio? Specific moves would be appreciated. My goal to to get toned and remain active. I don’t want to run any races or anything.
* This is running outside, not on a treadmill or anything.

What are some ways to build up my calf muscles for running?

Whenever I start to run, my calves start hurting a lot, and really early. Earlier, when I was running on my treadmill, at the .30 mile mark, by calves were BURNING.

What are some exercises, besides running of course, that would help me build up these muscles so they don’t hurt so easily?

I have been running on treadmill for 5mins per day and have gone up to doing 10mins a day for a week. I am 30. I just wondered if there was a set rule for starting out. My goal is to reach 50 mins. Can any running experts advise me please?

winter training for track and cross country?

During the cross country offseason I try to run 3-4 miles 4-5 times a week, but now that winter is here i’m finding it harder and harder to train outside. I was wondering if it would be ok to start running on the treadmill until the weather gets better?

My fastest mile is 7 minutes and 30 seconds. I stretch and all that, BTW I use a treadmill. Any ways on improving my speed on the treadmill to 5.59 and below minutes. Whoever gives the advice that helps me to 5 minute mile will have their name included on my youtube video of me running that mile. I want to improve my lower body strength because I have REALLY strong upper strength but medium strength in legs, I gotta run fast for baseball in highschool. Any advice?
