why?
Well it just makes no sense to run that way. The key to successful distance running is to be fit, and to use as little effort as possible when running. The way you achieve that is by doing a quick turnover (as opposed to long strides), while landing on the ball of the foot. You want to keep a nice low center of gravity. And try to kick your butt as opposed to trying to drive the knees. But in addition to that all that, landing on the heel can get you injured real quick.
How should one land on their foot?
On the toes, or flat footed.
all tutorials and help guides need to be voiced by people with english accents (not american). makes it more convincing and more badass.
try jogging without shoes on and use your heeljoggingstyle, you wouldnt do it for long at any rate. It´s unatural and it increases stress on knees and hips, the natural way of running is with the forefront of the foot touching ground first,
good point that. I guess I’m thinking too much along the paths of toe-striking, almost as in sprinting when critizising. Tried different techniques today and I’m not running that much heel-wise after all, even though I have liked to think I do. Still, thinking about running more direct on the frontfoot made me jogg more with my thighs, pulling them higher, which felt more tiresome and less effective. Thoughts on this?
bend ur upper body slightly forward and take smaller steps. u then should get a natural momentum forward and less power wasted on making u go upward. youtube this phrase “Run Right with Newton Running”
im also new to this, bought new running shoes without heel padding for this technique just yesterday, it makes to much sence for me not to change way of running now after ive come to know about it.
saw that video earlier on. Today I felt that smaller steps means more frequent stepping = more time on the ground = shorter timespan inbetween muscle contractions etc. = still more tiresome? Really want to work this one out… All the “heel striking” I do is from the very inner end of the heelbone/pad, on the lateral side of the foot, and not from the very back of the heel itself. Then “rolling” diagonally on the foot ending with the hallux, kind of. That’s how I’ve learned to run.
english accents are annoying
Bringing the heel in FRONT of the kneecap? That’s the simplest way to get a hyper-extended knee injury. Thanks.
Read born to run. Basically the best long distance runners in the world and the best sprinters in the world run with out the heel toughing the ground. Proof is in the pudding and all that.
This stuff seems a bit whack and counter to all the stuff I’ve seen many ultra runners doing. The Raramuri (Tarahumara) spring to mind and the Masai and the Kalihari Bush men.
You have to give your body time to get used to using that technique. Not saying you are out of shape, just relating my story. I am 6’3″ 225 and a midfoot striker. I go hella slow at the moment but I want to make good posture a practice. And eat bananas
I followed and tried the heal to fore foot running and got nothing but injuries. Then, I started running the way I usually run, fore foot to heel, and no injuries and running became a joy. This video made made my running form better. Thanks!
the girl at the start has a mental set of tits!
Yeah, but a disappointingly small waist.
I feel bad for the guy running on the treadmill in the video. lol

Now adays forefoot running gets more popular with the Newton shoes.
Even though things kind of suck right now you can still make smart investments to at least avoid the rate of inflation which is pretty large at the moment.. check out the newsletter from authoropen . com
