Pose method of running. Characteristics of pose running; 1.Landing as close as possible under the body on BOF=ball of foot (with BOF, hip and shoulder aligned) 2.Use of gravity as the motive force in running by leaning forward, (releasing the COM=center of mass over, in front of support). Don’t bent in the waist! 3.COS (change of support) by pulling the foot from the ground via hamstring activity. So there is no active (conscious, intended) push-off on support. Use of tendon- and muscle …

Try hill sprints or incline treadmill. It’s lower impact and generates growth hormone production.

she is very obviously using her hips quite a bit, you can see it in the slow motion. Plus think if you did not use your hips it would be like doing butt kicks and you would go no where fast

    Are those Puma H-Streets?

  4. Thjeko says:

Yes, puma H-streets. A very nice minimalistic shoe, especially if your feet is not too wide and if you know how to land soft and safe. I had to go half a size up because my forefoot is getting a bit wider due to adaptation of my feet to the needs of running barefoot and running in minimalistic shoes.

I have a pair but havent used them much. I find them a bit narrow myself as I have been barefoot running. I also own a pair of New Balance RC152 but just recently after a run developed severe ankle pain in them.

    she is sexy

  7. mikelpalo says:

She’s just running to look good just like any other pose enthusiast…the body corrects itself during training so i dont see the buzz about this so called pose crap

  8. mikelpalo says:

What does it exactly mean when you say pose is better….less injury? you’ll run faster? or you wont get tired that easily?…and how come this world record holders run so funny?

  9. mikelpalo says:

Those great runners arent running pose?

  10. Thjeko says:

Where did you read such? Not getting injured and running fast is depending on lots of things. Technique is just one aspect.
    This WR holder…….? Dunno…..

  11. Thjeko says:

Pose is a method to learn less gifted athletes (like me) to run more efficiently. The great runners you talk about are running very efficient. They have loads of talent and also posess the right personality (characteristics) to perform on top level. Their body just feels how to move best.

  12. Thjeko says:

Don’t let pose upset you. There’s no need. You have the full right to have your own clear opinion on this. And if negative, so be it ;-) .

  13. mikelpalo says:

Oh I’m not upset at all, its just that science has not provided a solid evidence that running pose or forefoot whatever you call it these days is more efficient nor “Better” than other techniques. when I look at this lady here to me she’s actually braking on forefoot impact she’s greatly reduced the stresses on her knees but those loads will be transferred to her ankles and tendons and if people would imitate her just because she looks good doing it, they will predispose themselves to injury.

  14. Thjeko says:

Good to know yo’re not upset. Yeh, would be nice to have a solid science background on running, but I doubt if there will ever be, as there’s no such thing so complicated as us human beings. We aim to land as close as possible under the body to reduce braking. However it will always be a little in front. As the bodyweight moves quickly over the ball of the foot, stress on tendons, muscles, joints and ligaments is reduced significantly. I do agree that imitating is a bad idea. BTW the lady is me.

posture is everything. In any sport. There are certain ways to efficently transfer energy to useful energy. it’s just physics.

It’s maybe been asked before, but I’m a barefoot runner, however for nightrunning I would like some shoes. Do you have any tips? What shoes do you wear in this clip for example?
    Thanks!

read gordon pirie’s free book online. it pretty much settles the score on the pose method debate, because 55 years of experience and holding world records cant be faked.

  18. Thjeko says:

I read it and I really enjoyed it!

These shoes are Puma H-street, a very light, flexible and minimalistic shoe. It’s hard to find at the moment as it’s replaced by the Puma Saloh. Another nice shoe, even lighter and with a very thin sole is the Mizuno wave Universe 2 (see my slowmo vid), it might be replaced by the nr.3 by now. And ofcourse there are the Vibram fivefingers (KSO). This might be best for you.

  20. Kr33cher says:

    Basically: vibram(VFF),feelmax&vivo barefoot :)
Closed VFF’s like the KSO’s (keep stuff out) r a good idea 4 running. VFF’s r not waterproof. There’s a new line of running VFF’s coming up in spring 2010. Injinji&feelmax toesocks r good 2 use with these. I love my Vibrams. :)
I’ve read good things about “vivo barefoot” shoes, but I went 4 the feelmax shoes instead. I’m waiting 4 their arrival, picked the Niesa’s. With the thinnest “sealskinz” socks they’ll keep my feet warm & dry in the winter.

I’m trying to understand the act of pulling the foot from the ground. When I consciously pull the foot from the ground, it feels like I’m expending too much energy to do it. Should my foot make a scraping sound as I pull it from the surface or should I concentrate on pulling my foot toward my buttocks? Trying to re-learn running.

  22. Thjeko says:

@ualgremlin; Don’t scrap the floor in a backward motion of the foot. .Instead pull the ankle straight under the hip. Because of momentum it wil look different, but the perception of the pull is straight up. This will lead to a fast recovery of the swingleg to get back into pose again. Read more about the pull in the reactions on another vid on my Thjeko channel; “Running different paces. Check the posetech site and the forum on their as well. Good luck!!

  23. christrimmer says:

Is it my imagination or are you dorsi-flexing a bit? I haven’t seen enough form to know if what you’re doing is right, or if you’re pulling your toes up a bit.

    Thoughts?

  24. Thjeko says:

The leg may drop back to the ground, there’s no need for action to anticipate for landing. Yes, there seems to be some tension (unconscious) in the front lowerleg muscles, just before landing. Old bad habits …. hard do get rid of the last bits ….. As the landing is pretty close under the body, the impact is on the frontside of the foot (BOF=ball of foot). This is good. The fall unweights the BOF rapidly after that. This reduces the load on the involved muscles significantly.
